May 21, 2004Chalabi Raid May Have Been Staged
As we read it, Chalabi's difficulties had less to do with the questionable intelligence his people fed to the CIA, or his disfavor at State, but rather that he was seen by his own people to be in the pocket of the Americans. It's therefore far from inconceivable that the widely reported "raid" on Chalabi's home and office was actually a staged event concocted by the Americans in concert with Chalabi in an effort to enhance his credibility in Iraq. Judging from the coverage of the "raid" and Chalabi's "outrage" in the dependably anti-American press, it's just obvious enough to work.
